Google Merchant Center: Missing potentially required value

Your product may be missing a legally required detail

What Google's message means

Google thinks a local law may require extra information for this product, such as unit pricing (for example price per 100 ml for perfume) or an energy efficiency class for appliances in some countries.

Why it matters

Google says that if a legally required attribute is missing, your offer may be non-compliant and you, as the merchant, are legally liable.

Common causes on Shopify

  • Products sold by volume or weight (cosmetics, food, drinks) in countries that require unit pricing.
  • Appliances sold where an energy efficiency label is required.

How to fix it

  1. 1Open the issue in Merchant Center to see which attribute Google means (often unit_pricing_measure or certification).
  2. 2Add the attribute with a correct value through your feed app or a supplemental feed.
  3. 3If the law doesn't apply to your product, confirm that it's compliant without the attribute.

How to stop it coming back

  • When you start selling in a new country, check which product information local law requires.

Common questions

Does this block my product?
Check the status in Merchant Center. Either way Google says missing legally required information can make you, the merchant, legally liable.
