Google Merchant Center: Limited performance due to missing identifiers · Limited performance due to missing value · Limited visibility
Your products are live but showing less (limited performance)
What Google's message means
'Limited performance' means the product is approved but missing information Google uses to match and rank it, most often GTIN, brand or MPN, or apparel details like color and size.
Why it matters
Google says products without recommended attributes may have limited visibility. Nothing is blocked, but you're likely getting fewer impressions than you could.
Common causes on Shopify
- No GTIN, brand or MPN for branded products.
- Apparel without color, size, gender or age group.
- Weak or missing optional data Google uses for matching.
How to fix it
- 1Open Needs attention and filter for 'Limited performance' to see which attribute is missing.
- 2Add real GTINs for branded products, and brand for everything.
- 3For products with no GTIN (custom, handmade, your own brand without GS1 barcodes), set identifier_exists to no instead of inventing a number.
- 4Fill in color, size, gender and age group for clothing.
In Shopify: Barcode (GTIN) and Vendor (brand) are on each product in Shopify; the Google & YouTube channel sends them automatically.
How to stop it coming back
- Fill identifiers and key attributes when you create products.
- Review the 'limited performance' filter monthly.
Common questions
- Is limited performance a disapproval?
- No. The product can still show, but Google says products missing recommended attributes may have limited visibility.
