Google Merchant Center: Missing contact information on your online store · Insufficient contact information · Website needs improvement

Shoppers can't find a way to contact you

What Google's message means

Google couldn't find enough contact details on your store, or the details don't match your Merchant Center account. Google asks for at least a business address, phone number, email, contact form or social media business profile on the site, plus a verified phone number in Merchant Center.

Why it matters

Google lists this as a common cause of Misrepresentation and 'Website needs improvement' issues, which can disapprove products or suspend the account.

Common causes on Shopify

  • No contact page, or it's not linked from the footer.
  • Only a contact form, with no business name or address anywhere.
  • Business details on the site differ from Merchant Center.
  • Placeholder text or demo content left over from the theme.

How to fix it

  1. 1Add a Contact page with your business name, email, phone and address, and link it in the footer so it's visible before checkout.
  2. 2Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number on your site and in Merchant Center (Settings → Business info → Business details).
  3. 3Verify your phone number in Merchant Center.
  4. 4Clean up placeholder text ('lorem ipsum'), broken links and empty pages, and check that checkout works.
  5. 5Complete identity verification if Merchant Center asks for it, then request a review of the issue.

In Shopify: Shopify's free Contact page template is under Online Store → Pages. Add it to the footer menu under Online Store → Navigation.

How to stop it coming back

  • Put the same business details in the footer, contact page, Shopify store details and Merchant Center.
  • Review the site with fresh eyes after every theme change.

Common questions

Is a contact form enough?
Google lists a contact form as one acceptable method on the website, but also asks for a verified phone number in Merchant Center, and consistent business details help any review.
