Google Merchant Center: Misrepresentation · Account suspended for misrepresentation · Warning: misrepresentation
Google doesn't trust your store yet (misrepresentation)
What Google's message means
Google's review found something on your site or account that it thinks could mislead shoppers: missing business details, unclear policies, or offers that look too good to be true.
Why it matters
This is an account-level policy. A warning can become a suspension, which stops all your products from showing on Google.
Common causes on Shopify
- Business name, address or phone differ between the website, Merchant Center and your payments profile.
- No physical address or reachable contact method on the site.
- Refund and shipping policies are missing, vague or contradict each other.
- Unrealistic discounts, fake countdown timers, fake reviews or claims you can't back up.
- Placeholder text, broken links or a checkout that doesn't work.
How to fix it
- 1Add complete contact information: business name, physical address, email and phone, on a Contact page and in Merchant Center business info.
- 2Publish clear refund, shipping, privacy and terms pages and link them in the footer.
- 3Remove claims you can't back up ("#1 in the world", fake countdowns, inflated 'compare at' prices) and make sure checkout shows all costs.
- 4Make sure your Merchant Center business name and website match your store.
- 5Complete identity verification if Merchant Center asks for it, then request a review (Needs attention → View setup and policy issues → I fixed the issue). Google says reviews typically take 3–7 business days. Google decides the outcome and there's no guarantee of reinstatement. Failed reviews can trigger a cool-down period before you can ask again.
In Shopify: Policies are in Settings → Policies; contact details and store name in Settings → Store details.
How to stop it coming back
- Keep one source of truth for business details and copy it everywhere.
- Re-read your policies after every app install that changes checkout, shipping or pricing.
- Fix product-level price and availability mismatches early; Google reviews the account as a whole.
Common questions
- Can FlagClear get my account reinstated?
- No one can guarantee that. FlagClear helps you find and fix the likely causes before you ask Google for a review.
- How long does a misrepresentation review take?
- Google says review requests typically take 3–7 business days, and you get an email when it's done.
- What happens if the review fails?
- Google may apply a cool-down period during which you can't request another review, and it can get longer after each unsuccessful review. Use it to fix everything first.
