Google Merchant Center: Invalid image [image link] · Image not retrieved (crawl pending) · Image not retrieved (crawl rate too slow) · Unable to show image · Image not processed
Google couldn't download your product image
What Google's message means
The image URL in your product data didn't return a usable image when Google tried to fetch it.
Why it matters
No image means no listing: the product is disapproved until Google can download one.
Common causes on Shopify
- The image was deleted or replaced in Shopify and the feed still has the old URL.
- The image was just added; Google says crawling can take up to 3 days.
- The image link redirects, or the file extension doesn't match the real format.
- robots.txt blocks Googlebot-Image.
How to fix it
- 1Open the image link from Merchant Center. If it doesn't load, the image was deleted or moved.
- 2Re-upload the image in Shopify so it gets a fresh URL, then let the channel resync. Google says a new URL is fetched much faster than new content behind an old URL.
- 3Check that the file is JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP or TIFF, that the extension matches the real format, and that the link points straight to the image without redirects.
- 4If the status says crawl pending, wait. Google says new images can take up to 3 days to be crawled.
How to stop it coming back
- Upload new files instead of overwriting old ones, so each change gets a new URL.
- When changing many images, Google suggests submitting them gradually (e.g. about 10% a day).
Common questions
- Why does my new image take weeks to show?
- Google says a new image can take up to 6 weeks to appear if the URL stays the same. Using a new URL makes Google fetch it faster, usually within about 3 days.
