Google Merchant Center: Restricted product · Prohibited product · Dangerous products · Policy violation

Google says this product breaks a Shopping policy

What Google's message means

Google classified the product as restricted or prohibited (for example weapons, certain healthcare items, dangerous goods or counterfeit-looking products).

Why it matters

These products can't be advertised. Repeated or serious violations can lead to an account suspension.

Common causes on Shopify

  • The product is in a restricted category (for example weapons, some healthcare items, dangerous goods) for the target country.
  • Wording in the title or description sounds like a restricted item ('knife', 'gun', 'vape', 'CBD').
  • The product looks like a branded item it isn't.

How to fix it

  1. 1Read the exact policy linked in the issue. Some categories are allowed only in certain countries or with certification.
  2. 2If the product really is restricted, exclude it from your Google channel.
  3. 3If Google misread it (e.g. a toy sword flagged as a weapon), clarify the title, description and images, then request a review of that product in Merchant Center.

How to stop it coming back

  • Check Google's Shopping policies before adding a new product line.
  • Write titles that describe the product plainly, without slang that sounds like a restricted item.

Common questions

Can one restricted product suspend my account?
Repeated or egregious violations can. Counterfeit goods and unauthorized pharmacies are suspended without warning, so take these seriously.
