Google Merchant Center: Excessive capitalization [title] · Excessive capitalization
Your product title has too many capital letters
What Google's message means
Google's automated systems found a title written largely in capitals (e.g. 'BEST LEATHER WALLET'). Google says acronyms, phone numbers and country or currency codes are fine.
Why it matters
Google says shoppers see all-caps text as less trustworthy, and the product can be disapproved until the title is fixed.
Common causes on Shopify
- Titles written in all caps, often imported from suppliers.
- Promo words in capitals ('NEW', 'SALE', 'HOT').
How to fix it
- 1Rewrite the title in normal sentence or title case: 'Leather Wallet for Men – Brown'.
- 2Keep capitals only for brand names written that way, acronyms (USB, LED) and sizes (XL).
- 3Remove shouting promo words like 'SALE' or 'FREE SHIPPING' from titles; Google doesn't want promotional text there.
- 4Let the channel resync.
In Shopify: The Shopify product title is what Google gets unless your feed app overrides it, so check both.
How to stop it coming back
- Write titles as brand + product + key attributes in normal case.
Common questions
- My brand is written in capitals. Is that a problem?
- Google accepts capitals for acronyms and initials. Keep the brand as it's officially written and write the rest of the title in normal case.
- How long can a title be?
- Google's title attribute accepts 1–150 characters.
